KURēN has a structure of multi-element blocks that build a vertical column, and reacts to the piecemeal movement of these elements, which seems to make it very unstable.
The original concept for the object was to create a column with a regular structure, built from multiple blocks. The modules were to be superimposed perpendicularly on each other, and their thickness was to regularly decrease or increase their proportions relative to each other, creating something like a tall heat sink. I covered each component with black or gray felt, which I then combed with a wire brush, creating an animal hair effect to give the object a wilder feel. As I worked, I began to intuitively rearrange the blocks, shifting them irregularly relative to the center to create the impression of an unstable structure that might topple over.
KURēN is an object from the GENERATORS series
GENERATORS have a hidden history, not directly derived from myth, but inspired by mythology. The magic of the artifact is a myth passed on to the next generation referring to the spirit of societies. The object is between its physicality and meta history, between body and spirit, reality and imagination. It reminds us of different times, other cultures and customs. Changing generations savage the memory of their ancestors, leaving traces in language and objects that build identity but are also a burden.
